Congratulations to the DPSL Baseball & Softball Champions!

On Monday, May 22, the final four DPSL baseball teams competed in the division finals at Comerica Park! In the Mega division, Western International defended their title with a 5-4 victory over King and Detroit Edison pulled off a 8-4 win over Osborn for the East-West division.

On May 19, The Lady Colts of DCP-Northwestern were crowned Division 2 champions by defeating Denby 13-8. In the East)West division, Cowgirls of Western won their first Division 1 championship, defending champion Renaissance by a score 19-4.

Congratulations to all of the teams on a great season and thank you to all coaches, parents and staff for supporting our athletes all year long!

DPSCD Athletes Participate in National Football Signing Day

National Football Signing Day

On February 1, National Football Signing Day, DPSCD athletes joined family and friends in the Horatio Williams Foundation Center to sign and commit to colleges across the United States. Daryl Weaver, the public address announcer for the Detroit Public Sports League, individually recognized the players as they made their way to sign.

A total of 32 from the DPSL students have committed and a select few graduated early to start winter conditioning with their college football teams. Congratulations Young Men! Below is a full list of  DPSCD students and their perspective colleges:

Detroit Public Schools Community District Celebrates Historic Football Teams MHSAA State Championships with World-Class Parade

In partnership with the Parade Company, DPSCD will celebrate our MHSAA Division 1 and 2 Champions with a world-class parade Monday, December 5 at 1:30 p.m. Join us in your spirit team wear as we march down Woodward with the winning teams, school marching bands and Interim Superintendent Meriweather along with “Mason” from the Mason in the Morning Show on 105.9 KISS.

The parade will step off at Grand Circus Park at 1:30p.m. and march down Woodward culminating in a rally at 2:15 p.m. in front of the Spirit of Detroit. Come out and celebrate the Championship teams, Athletic Director Alvin Ward, Cass Tech’s Coach Wilcher and King’s Coach Spencer, along with proud DPSCD staff and students.

Cass Technical High School and Martin Luther King, Jr. Sr. High School’s football teams won dual State Championships capturing the MHSAA Division 1 and Division 2 titles. This is the first time in state history that Division 1 and 2 winners hail from the same school district. In recognition of this historical event, DPSCD, in partnership with the Parade Company will celebrate these unprecedented wins with a parade.

The march will feature especially designed “pillar” floats highlighting the district’s new academic plan and the five pillars – Literacy, Career Pathways, Innovation, Family and Community and Wrap-around Services.

All staff is invited to wear team colors Monday to support our champions – Cass (Green and White); King (Black and Gold) – or a combination of the colors.

Friday, November 25, 2016 was lights out at Ford Field as our King Crusaders delivered a shutout (18-0) and captured the Division 2 title and trophy. Congratulations King Crusaders!

cass-tech-champion-photo-2Then on Saturday—Cass Tech High School Technicians Won the MHSAA Division 1 Title!

The Cass Technicians crushed Catholic Central 49-20 on Saturday, November 26, 2016 to capture the Division 1 title and trophy.

NOTE: This weekend’s victories contribute to three championships for each team (Cass in 2011, 2012, 2016 & King in 2007, 2015, 2016) and both have also won back-to-back championships (Cass in seasons 2011-2012, and now King in seasons 2015-2016).

Superintendent Meriweather said, “Hats off to the Crusaders and Technicians who also left their mark in history by becoming the first two DPSL football teams to win separate MHSAA divisional championships during the same season. We are planning a special celebration for our champions, so stay tuned!” 

Lady Crusaders crowned DPSL 2016 Girls Swim Champions

2016 Girls Swim Champions posing with trophiesCongratulations are in order. The Lady Crusaders were crowned DPSL 2016 Girls Swim Champions this evening at Western International High School. Coach Gary Peterson’s team set a record today by placing first in all eleven events, including eight individual events and three relays. Job well done and we are proud of your accomplishments. Detroit Public School League’s Division I/II games this Friday at Ford Field

Rivals Cass Tech and King compete for Division I title

DETROIT (October 20, 2016) – The Detroit Public School League’s football games to determine who will make the MHSAA playoffs are scheduled at Ford Field this Friday starting with the first line-up at 4 p.m. with EAA’s Mumford High School (8-0) vs. Denby High School (7-1). The DPS Community District’s Cass Technical High School (8-0) will faceoff with Martin Luther King, Jr. Senior High School at 7 p.m.

The 4 p.m. game will yield a Division I/II champion and the 7 p.m. game will yield a Division I champion.  After these games there will be a TV selection Sunday, Oct. 23 on Fox Sports Detroit to see which of the teams will make the MHSAA playoffs. All teams are expected to qualify.

Tickets can be purchased at Ford Field for $10. Gates open at 3 p.m.
